About my approach - I have been an Integrative counsellor since 2014

This means I aim to respectfully and tentatively offer support to you by combining theories from the most appropriate approaches. I have found that this enables me to adapt my approach to meet the individual needs of each person I work with.

My role as a counsellor is not to ‘tell’ you the answers to the above questions as the ‘expert’ in the room. Instead, what I will endeavour to offer is a private, non-judgemental and understanding environment where you can feel supported, safe and empowered enough to find the answers to these questions from your own perspective.

What you can expect

People can be drawn to counselling for a number of different reasons. Perhaps a recent life event or change has left you feeling ill equipped to cope or deeply unhappy. Alternatively, difficult thoughts, feelings, experiences or relationships, could have been causing you distress for a much longer period.

It can feel too big of a challenge alone to know what the issues are, where and when they arose and what to do about them. However, it can be a struggle to gain support from family and friends who may not be available, able or willing to understanding your worries. This is where counselling can be of great benefit.

Our First Session

This will be an opportunity for us to meet each other and for me to pass on more information about the counselling I offer. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions as well as letting me know in your own words what brings you to counselling. This will hopefully help us establish if this is the right counselling option for you at this time.

Confidentiality

I understand that being provided with a private space is an important part of the counselling process. Therefore, I will work hard to ensure that what you share with me during our time together is confidential. However, this may not be possible if I believe that there is a genuine risk of harm to you or another person or when certain laws are being broken.

Counselling Process

The process of counselling may involve uncovering and working with unpleasant, unwanted or strong feelings, thoughts or memories. I believe this is where my expertise becomes important to help guide you safely through what is uncovered. In this way, counselling can enable many to begin seeing patterns within their lives and make connections between experiences for greater awareness and choice.
